Andrea Trinchieri: We are the dirty dozen

FC Bayern Munich defeated Zalgiris Kaunas on Thursday to achieve a historic EuroLeague playoffs qualification, for the first time in its history, and Andrea Trinchieri will surely celebrate this achievement.

“This was our 16th game in 34 days. I don’t know how we made it. We never practiced, we had injured players, we traveled all around Europe with no mercy. I really feel that this group of players made something unbelievable. In the beginning, we ranked 16, 17 in the EuroLeague “exit polls”. So I’m proud. Maybe we don’t shine, we have to dig out of the hole. Maybe this is our destiny. I wouldn’t change any of my players. This is how we are. We are not in good shape. We don’t play good now. It’s not human so I’m very proud that my team found a way to win this game”, he said in the post-game press conference.

“I believe this is a great spot for German basketball, a great night for Bayern. If you compare other Bayern teams with the names this year… We had to put together a team under the COVID influence. Every player came here to give his best. Wade Baldwin, coming from playing 12 minutes in Olympiacos, Jalen Reynolds played 13 minutes in Maccabi, Vladimir Lucic is playing the best season of his entire career… Everybody is trying to go over their limit. We are the dirty dozen and we are happy to be the dirty dozen”, he added.

Now it’s time for coach Trinchieri to enjoy the qualification with class and a “pool” of red wine.
