Nikola Mirotic has rejected the salary cut proposed by FC Barcelona, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Mirotic, 30, joined Barca in 2019 following a five-year run in the NBA. Entering the third year of his stint, his contract ranked him first in our list of the Top 10 salaries of the 2021-22 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season.

The Catalan team is forced to reduce expenses as much as possible, a situation extended from the football section of the club.

All Barcelona players, including Mirotic, had accepted the salary cut implemented to every division of the organization amid the suspension of all sports activities due to the coronavirus pandemic, as announced in March 2020.

In this case with the organization remaining fully committed to reducing expenses, including contracts of returning players, has proposed a salary cut of about 25% to the experienced power forward. Mirotic does not seem ready to accept those terms.

Captain Pierre Oriola has also turned down the offer for a salary cut, the report adds. Barca hopes to start from the team leaders before attempting further financial adjustments on the remaining contracts signed prior to the coronavirus pandemic. Both Oriola and Mirotic are willing to work out a solution but currently seem distanced from a potential agreement.

Alex Abrines, Sergi Martinez, and Cory Higgins all penned contract extensions this summer, under the new financial situation.

Mirotic, after departing Real Madrid in 2014, made his way to 359 NBA games between the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, and Milwaukee Bucks.
