Zalgiris announced that team captain Paulius Jankunas will be sidelined going forward due to an upcoming meniscus surgery he will be undergoing during the week.

The 37-year-old has been averaging 4.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16 minutes over nine games he played this season for the team across the Lithuanian League and the EuroLeague.

Per Zalgiris Kaunas:

Zalgiris captain Paulius Jankunas will be forced to the sidelines for the foreseeable future, as he will undergo meniscus surgery in the Gijos Klinikos on Thursday.

According to Zalgiris doctor Vytautas Kailius, Jankunas felt a pain in his knee. A closer look by Zalgiris doctors suggested a tear in his meniscus, with the diagnosis later being confirmed by a thorough examination by traumatologist Rimtautas Gudas and magnetic resonance imaging.

Rehabilitation and physiotherapy will begin immediately, just a couple days after the surgery. It is expected that Jankunas will be back on the court in 4-5 weeks.
