Joan Penarroya and Baskonia have reached an agreement on a two-year deal as reported by Eurohoops’ Aris Barkas. Penarroya, 53, is expected to make his EuroLeague debut as a head coach next season.

A back-to-back Basketball Champions League champion with Hereda San Pablo Burgos in 2020 and 2021, Penarroya joined Valencia with which he reached the 7DAYS EuroCup semifinals this past season. Valencia lost to Virtus Segafredo Bologna, that later on lifted the EuroCup trophy.

Early in February, reports surfaced about Valencia’s desire to keep Penarroya on board due to Baskonia’s interest, though a contract extension was never finalized.

Valencia’s season came to an end after losing to Baskonia in the Liga ACB quarterfinals 2-1 and the latter will now face Real Madrid in the upcoming semifinals.
