Launching plans for the 2022-23 season, FC Barcelona has informed Nick Calathes that the new direction of the team may not include him, according to Eurohoops sources.

Calathes, 33, recently denied reports of wanting out of his current contract, guaranteed through the next season without opt-out clauses. Talks concerning early termination of the contract are expected and it may seem that the Greek-American point guard is on his way out of the Catalonia giant but nothing can be certain at this point.

Calathes penned a two-year contract last July. Packing 7.3 points, 6.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game displayed the picture of his efforts in the 2021-22 season of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Barca topped the regular-season standings and moving to the Playoffs eliminated FC Bayern Munich in five games but lost to archrival Real Madrid in the Final Four Semifinal and settled for third place in the season-ending tournament hosted by Belgrade.

As for Spain’s Liga Endesa, Calathes put up 6.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game over 39 appearances in the 2021-22 edition of the ACB. The team guided by Lithuanian head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius secured the home-court advantage throughout the playoffs as the top-place team in the standings of the Regular Season and reached the Finals of the Playoffs but fell short in the championship best-of-five series opposite Madrid. Winning the Copa del Rey by edging out Los Blancos in Granada secured the lone title of the season back in February.
