Experienced Sergio Llull has signed a two-year contract extension with Real Madrid, the team announced Wednesday.

Per the press release: “Real Madrid C. F. and Sergio Llull have agreed an extension to the player’s contract, linking him to the club until 30 June 2024.”

Llull, 34, has been playing for Los Blancos since 2007 and has been key in winning multiple titles, including two EuroLeague championships. The latest contract extension punches in his 17th and 18th season at the team located in Madrid. His 16th campaign featured 8.8 points, 2.8 assists, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.5 steals per game in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague to go along with 9.2 points, 2.4 assists, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.2 steals per game in Spain’s Liga Endesa.

Finishing the Regular Season of the 2021-22 edition of EuroLeague handed the home-court advantage in the Playoffs and led to the three-game sweep of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. The Spanish powerhouse also beat FC Barcelona in the Final Four Semifinals but suffered a narrow defeat to Anadolu Efes in the ensuing championship game in Belgrade. At the domestic level, the Madrid outfit ranked second in the Liga Endesa Regular Season behind Barca but was crowned ACB champion after reaching the best-of-five championship series and taking down its archrival in four games.

Entering a new era after parting ways with Pablo Laso, the Whites named Chus Mateo as the new head coach before renewing the contract of Llull until the end of the 2023-24 season. Other offseason moves saw the departures of Thomas Heurtel, Trey Thompkins, and Jeffery Taylor.
