Angelo Caloiaro has been released by Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, the team announced Wednesday.

Per the press release: “Angelo Caloiaro parts from Maccabi after four seasons in yellow and blue, during which he won three championships and the state cup. The Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club wishes the forward all the best in his next step.”

Caloiaro, 32, logged 3.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.6 steals per game in the 2021-22 edition of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, his fourth in the top club continental competition of Europe. Backed by a 17-11 W-L tally, his side finished the Regular Season in fifth place and clinched a berth in the playoffs for the first time since 2015. But fourth-placed Real Madrid swept the Yellows to progress to the Final Four.

The California-born forward averaged 5.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.7 steals per game in Israel’s Winner League. Despite being the top-seeded team in the Playoffs, Maccabi failed to move past Bnei Ofek Dist Herzeliya and the Semifinals. Earlier in the season, Hapoel SP Tel Aviv ended the campaign of its city rival in the Israeli State Cup.

Coming out of San Francisco in 2012, Caloiaro went from a rookie season in Bulgaria to Germany, Spain, and Turkey, before landing in Tel Aviv.

Besides hiring Oded Kattash as the new head coach, Maccabi has been extremely busy in the offseason. Josh Nebo, Jarell Martin, Wade Baldwin IV, Rafi Menco, Lorenzo Brown, Darrun Hilliard, Austin Hollins, Guy Pnini, Bonzie Colson, and Alex Poythress have all been summer additions, while captain John DiBartolomeo’s contract was extended through the 2022-23 season.
