He’s a high flyer, he has the vision, and his name is James Webb. No, we’re not talking about the famous space telescope. We’re talking about James Webb III, the 29-years-old forward who joins Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv on a deal for two seasons.

The 2.06M (6-9) American bolsters Oded Kattash’s squad after a successful maiden season in the EuroLeague with Valencia. He delivered 8 PPG while shooting 38.4% from long range in the competition, while grabbing 4.1 RPG in under 22 minutes per contest. In the demanding Spanish ACB League, Webb III had 10 PPG, 36.8% from deep, 5.5 boards and 24 minutes PG.

“James is versatile and is able to play in two positions, which is something that can help us a lot”, commented Head Coach Oded Kattash to Maccabi’s official website, “He plays active and has a good shot. He has good character, which is valuable to us, and has EuroLeague experience. We certainly think he can upgrade us and fit in with our system”.

“Maccabi is a top level club with a great winning history”, said Webb III, “The fans are exciting and very passionate, the atmosphere is a thrill to be in and I am super excited to get there and add a little more energy. Yalla Maccabi!”.

James Webb III was born on August 19th, 1993 in Augusta, Georgia. He moved to South Carolina in high school and began his collegiate career with the modest North Idaho Cardinals. During his sophomore year, the energetic forward transferred to Boise State, where he blossomed and earned First Team All-MWC (Mountain West Conference) honors.

Though he went undrafted, Webb III earned a contract with the Brooklyn Nets after two seasons in the G-League. He appeared in 10 NBA games before embarking on his European adventure. He played for Bonn in Germany, returned stateside for another stint in the G-League, and in 2020 joined Larisa in Greece. A breakout season in the Greek league (13.3 PPG, 9.6 RPG and 48.5% from 3) saw Webb III move to Spain. He spent two seasons at Murcia before playing last season with the orange uniforms of Valencia.
