Ettore Messina uses ‘right of silence’ on Rodney McGruder

After securing a win in Round 20 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, Ettore Messina shared updates on multiple injury players but was far from equally clear regarding reports sending Rodney McGruder to EA7 Emporio Armani Milan.

“If that was false, I’d say I don’t know. If that were true, I’d say the same exact thing. Just like in court, I exercise my right of silence,” reacted the head coach and president of basketball operations of the Italian club on Tuesday.

Le Scarpette Rosse has been seeking additional backcourt depth moving deeper into the 2023-24 installments of the EuroLeague and domestic competitions in Italy. More or less, injuries have forced Messina to scan the market.

“Nobody will come back for at least two weeks, this and the next one,” he referred to Billy Baron (right elbow), Maodo Lo (left thigh), Nikola Mirotic (Achilles), and Shavon Shields (right thigh), “I’m sorry I’m giving you such bad news, but we’re in this situation.”

“They’re getting better, but Shavon hasn’t done anything yet on the court, Maodo Lo just started doing some things again, and for Billy we’re talking about three weeks with individual work mixed with some therapies,” added the experienced tactician, “For at least two weeks, nobody is coming back.”

Improving to 9-11 in Europe’s premier club continental competitions, one game outside the Play-In zone, his side wraps up the latest two-game week by hosting Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet in Mediolanum Forum on Thursday.
