EuroLeague referee Matej Boltauzer is sanctioned by the organization for stealing a perfume bottle at an airport. The Slovenian international referee is banned from officiating any games in the 2024-25 season.

Boltauzer may return in the 2025-26 season if the officiating department of EuroLeague Basketball considers him redeemed.

Last April, Republica published a video from security camera footage showing Boltauzer shoplifting a perfume bottle from a store at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport. Boltauzer was reported to have admitted the theft to the police before he was released.

The incident took place the day after a game between Partizan Mozzart Bet and AS Monaco that Boltauzer officiated. EuroLeague opened a disciplinary procedure on the incident.

Boltauzer has been one of the most prominent European referees. He has officiated in multiple international competitions and Final Four tournaments.
