Rafa Villar signed a three-year contract to join Baskonia.
The team based in Vitoria-Gasteiz announced the addition of the young playmaker on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old point guard emerged as the second move in the summer transfer market, after opening with the addition of Clement Frisch to the 2025-26 squad. More adjustments are likely, heading to continental and domestic competitions of the 2025-26 season.
Villar was a youth product of FC Barcelona and debuted with the senior team during the 2021-22 season, including a brief appearance with 1/2 three-pointers and one rebound against Zalgiris in Round 12 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. He also logged three appearances in the Liga Endesa.
Moving on from Barca and taking on a bigger role at ICG Forca / Hiopos Lleida, initially on a loan assignment with the club competing in the second-tier division of Spain, and eventually on a free transfer, and in his third year to the ACB for the 2024-25 campaign. The Barcelona native tallied 5.7 points, 2.9 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 0.4 blocks per contest over 34 games in the top-flight division.
Beyond the club level, Villar was promoted to the senior national team of Spain during last season and earned three caps in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers. At the junior level, he captured gold medals in the FIBA U19 World Cup 2023 and FIBA U18 European Championship 2022, and also suited up for the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2024.
