Virtus Bologna has reached a multi-year agreement with Abramo Canka, the club announced, bringing the Italian swingman back home after several years abroad.
Canka developed through the Stella Azzurra youth system before debuting in Serie A2 with Roseto. His career has included stints in Russia (Lokomotiv Kuban), Lithuania (Nevezis), and the United States, where he played college basketball at UCLA, Wake Forest, and Stetson.
He averaged eight points and nearly five rebounds per game last season with the Stetson Hatters.
“I’m proud and honored to wear the colors of the Italian Champions,” Canka said in his first statement as a Virtus player. “I’m ready to make myself available and can’t wait to start working for Virtus.”
Virtus General Manager Paolo Ronci welcomed Canka by highlighting his mentality and potential:
“The final stretch of last season showed us how important it is to have players who fully commit to the team’s needs with determination and total dedication to the collective result. Abramo has been part of the national youth teams and has already gained significant experience abroad. We thought it was the right time to give him the opportunity to return to Italy, and we’re happy to welcome him into the Virtus family.”
