Dubai Basketball started its historic EuroLeague campaign with a win over Partizan, despite Serbian national team player Aleksa Avramovic missing the action.

The former Partizan and CSKA Moscow guard injured his heel while representing Serbia at EuroBasket. The initial prognosis suggested he could return to the court soon, but new information has emerged.

According to Arena Sport commentator Edin Avdić, Avramovic suffered another injury and faces a lengthy absence.

Aleksa faces a break of eight to twelve weeks due to a knee injury. According to the information I have, he was injured by the physiotherapist, which is quite a bizarre situation. He previously had a heel injury, and this is a new injury from a few days ago. From what I know, the physiotherapist, during some stretching, apparently pulled his leg too much. You can’t believe something like this happens, but here we are… He’s looking at a two-month break because of it. As far as I know, it involves the knee ligaments,” Avdić revealed during his podcast Udvajanje.

There is still no official confirmation regarding the severity of Avramovic’s injury, but his potential absence could be a big blow for Dubai at the start of the season, despite their historic opening victory.

Avramovic has established himself as an elite defender, winning the Best Defensive Player award at the Paris Olympics after Serbia claimed the bronze medal. Last season, he led CSKA Moscow to the VTB Championship, averaging 12.8 points and 3.4 assists per game, proving his high offensive value as well.
