Panathinaikos released a statement regarding Lessort: “His return will be delayed”

Mathias Lessort, currently a member of Panathinaikos, is one of the best centers in Europe.

However, over the past year, we have seen little of Lessort on the court, as he suffered a serious knee injury last December.

The former Partizan player made a return and played some minutes at the Final Four tournament in Abu Dhabi, but his condition worsened again afterwards.

In recent days, many media outlets have reported on the status of Lessort and his injury, leading Panathinaikos to put an end to the rumors by issuing a statement, which we are sharing in full.

“Panathinaikos BC AKTOR would like, with respect and responsibility — and always in full consultation with Mathias Lessort — to provide an update on the condition of our athlete, in the last few hours numerous exaggerated and inaccurate reports have been circulated.

Mathias was in the final stage of his reintegration into full team practice. However, during the increase of training load, he experienced discomfort in his left ankle and immediately underwent new medical examinations. These results revealed the presence of bone edema, and the medical staff is proceeding with a reassessment of the management plan.

His return to competition will be delayed, as the protection of our athletes’ health is always a non-negotiable priority for our club. We remind everyone that matters concerning the health of our players are strictly personal and cannot become the subject of rumors, speculation, or so-called “exclusive information.”

We will not allow sensitive issues to become a product of misinformation. We ask for respect toward the athlete and the team, just as we act with responsibility and transparency in informing the public. Regarding the timeline of his return to full team activities, any official update will be communicated exclusively by the club.”
