Giorgos Bartzokas went into the challenges of adding a player to the Olympiacos roster.
“We don’t have the luxury of saying we’re looking for a player of 50% in three-pointers and ten assists. If he existed, the presidents would have brought him in already,” he reiterated in a media session on Thursday, ahead of Round 12 of the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season and a meeting with Paris in the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Friday.
The Reds are scanning the market to reinforce the backcourt, following the recent serious injury to Keenan Evans.
“We’re looking for a good player, someone who can compete at this level. I wish he could have different characteristics from our current players. It doesn’t mean he’s necessarily played in the Euroleague before. If it were up to me, I would have added a player. I would have liked to have added a player. I’ve made five or six proposals that were not completed for various reasons. Not because the presidents didn’t want to, but because it wasn’t possible,” explained the 60-year-old Greek tactician.
“I don’t want to burden the team with a player. We want a player who is suitable for our team. Players are offered to us, agents offer several, you get involved, but his team doesn’t want to part ways with him. You get caught in a vicious circle. We’re working on this. We have to make a correct choice,” he added.
Heading to Round 12, the Greek club is tied with three more teams at 7-4, one game behind co-leaders Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv and Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet.
