After Željko Obradović resigned, Partizan played — and won — two games under interim head coach Mirko Ocokoljić.
According to Meridian Sport, the club has found a permanent solution, as former Valencia, Baskonia, and Barcelona coach Joan Peñarroya is expected to take over.
The two sides have reportedly reached an agreement on a deal that will keep him on the Belgrade team’s bench until the summer of 2027.
Peñarroya began the season with Barcelona but parted ways with the Catalan side in November, after Xavi Pascual took over.
The 56-year-old tactician previously coached Andorra, Manresa, and Burgos, winning two Basketball Champions League titles with Burgos.
Reaction from Partizan
Later on, Partizan issued an official statement regarding the reports, emphasizing that the club’s focus remains on the upcoming Belgrade derby and that no deal has been signed.
“Two days before the derby against Crvena zvezda, all thoughts within KK Partizan Mozzart Bet are focused squarely on this clash.
The Black-and-Whites have not signed a contract with a new head coach, and the club is urging the media not to publish the current rumors. The organization is functioning steadily, with full support for the current coaching staff as they prepare for the upcoming derby.
All available tickets for the game have been sold, and the interest is enormous. With that in mind, it is fully expected that Belgrade will once again become the basketball capital of Europe this Friday.“
