Monte Morris, the 30-year-old guard, has officially joined Olympiacos.
After stints with the Denver Nuggets (2017–22), Washington Wizards (2022–23), Detroit Pistons (2023–24), Minnesota Timberwolves (2024), Suns (2024–25), and Indiana Pacers (2025), Morris is now set to strengthen the point guard spot for Olympiacos until the end of the season.
He landed in Greece on Sunday morning and immediately expressed his readiness.
“I’m happy to be in Greece,” he said, “I’ve already received a lot of love messages from the fans. I’m ready to play hard for the team.”
Reflecting on his first conversation with coach Bartzokas, Morris added:
“The coach told me to come and play my game, like I did with the Nuggets. To be a floor general, aggressive in my play, and make my teammates better. My job is to play both defense and offense, help the team win, and enjoy it.”
Morris also spoke about the advice he received from family and friends:
“I talked with my mom and others. They told me to enjoy this opportunity and not worry about returning to the NBA. I’m focused on Olympiacos and want to give my best. I’m here to do what I know.”
He also mentioned messages from former teammates:
“Kendrick Nunn, Naz Mitrou-Long, Juancho Hernangómez, and Schröder all told me I’d love it here. I went to Iowa State (2013–17), and it’ll feel like Iowa vs. Iowa State — the rivalry with Panathinaikos. I love playing in front of big crowds. I’m ready and excited.”
Acknowledging the challenge ahead, Morris said:
“If this is what the coach wants from me, I’ll do it. I’m not part of the team from the start, so I’ll need time to adjust — learning where my teammates want the ball and other details. What I can control are my leadership qualities and my energy. Once I get into the team’s chemistry, I’ll be even better.”
On choosing Olympiacos, Morris explained:
“I had other offers, but Olympiacos’ style suits me. I even wore red and white in high school.”
And to the fans, he promised:
“I’ll play as hard as I can every game. I don’t want to put pressure on myself. Basketball here is different from the NBA, but it’s still basketball. I’ll focus on what I can control, play with a smile, involve the crowd, and bring energy to the team.”
