Bayern Munich sacked Gordon Herbert. The Euroleague team has announced that the German coach is no longer in charge.
Herbert, the team’s coach since last season, has reached an agreement with the club for a mutually beneficial parting of ways. The German team is now 5-12 in the Euroleague, at the bottom of the standings. Bayern made a statement about the decision:
Bayern Munich’s basketball team will continue the season under new leadership: after a year and a half, head coach Gordon Herbert is leaving FCBB with immediate effect. The 66-year-old Canadian and the German champions agreed to the early termination of their partnership on Saturday following a confidential exchange. Both parties emphasized that this regrettable decision was made “for the good of the team and the club.”
The Munich team is reeling from its poor run in the EuroLeague, which has now seen it winless in eight games, including a 77-103 defeat in Monaco. For Sunday night’s sold-out league game at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne against sixth-placed Bonn (6-5 record), the team will be led by the current coaching staff. FCBB hopes to finalize its coaching succession plan for its next EuroLeague home game on Tuesday night at SAP Garden against league leaders Hapoel Tel Aviv.
