Svetislav Pesic is back in Germany. After the departure of Gordon Herbert, Bayern announced the legendary Serbian coach as their new head coach.
Pesic coached Bayern Munich between 2012 and 2016 and, after leaving the Serbian national team, will return to the EuroLeague. Bayern made a statement:
The most successful coach in German basketball history is returning to Munich: Svetislav Pesic will take over as head coach of Bayern Munich until the end of the season. The experienced Serbian coach was the national team coach of his native country until this summer. He will replace Gordon Herbert at short notice, with whom the German champions agreed to an early departure on Saturday. Under Pesic’s leadership, FC Bayern Munich won their first BBL title in 2014.
“Svetislav knows Munich, Bavaria, and both leagues; some of us also know him very well, so his adjustment period will be short. This, combined with his vast experience, gives us a positive impression of this decision,” said FCBB sporting director Dragan Tarlac.
He won the Bundesliga title in 2014, the first one to do it since 1955.
