Bayern Munich’s basketball team will begin the new year with a roster change, as Spencer Dinwiddie will no longer be part of the squad.

The 32-year-old guard and the club have mutually agreed to end his contract, which had been set to run through the remainder of the season, due to personal circumstances.

With approval from the club’s sporting leadership, Dinwiddie returned to the United States shortly before Christmas following a serious illness within his family.

“I would like to thank the organization, the team, and the fans”, Dinwiddie said. “Despite the recent challenging phase of the season, I felt very comfortable in Munich. Unfortunately, I am currently not in a position to play”.

Bayern sports director Dragan Tarlac added: “We thank Spencer for the commitment he gave us. But sometimes other things are more important than sport. Health comes above everything else, and we sincerely hope that everything will turn out well for Spencer and his family in 2026.”

Dinwiddie joined Bayern in October, marking the first European chapter of his career after many years in the NBA.

He appeared in 11 EuroLeague games, averaging 11.7 points and 2.9 assists per contest, ranking second on the team in scoring behind Andi Obst (12.4 points per game).

In domestic league play, the American guard averaged 13 points and four assists across five appearances, again trailing only Obst (15 points per game).

Even though the scenario seems unlikely, Spencer Dinwiddie could play for another Euroleague team until 25 February.
