Virtus Bologna secured a victory in the 25th Round of the Euroleague by defeating Monaco away, with a score of 84-82.
Dusko Ivanovic’s team traveled without their top scorer Carsen Edwards and also without Alessandro Pajola, but they ultimately triumphed. Derrick Alston was the top scorer with 19 points, Matt Morgan added 15, while the hero Luka Vildoza scored 13.
On the other side, Mike James was the best with 17 points and nine assists, while Jaron Blossomgame added 14, and Elie Okobo and Daniel Theis scored 12 each.
Monaco continued with poor results, and Vassilis Spanoulis’ team recorded their third consecutive loss in the elite competition. It seemed that last season’s finalist would secure a victory, as they already had a noticeable lead after the first quarter (30-22).
However, Virtus managed to fight back, entering the final quarter with only a three-point deficit (65-62). The Italians didn’t stop there, making a 15-1 run and achieving a double-digit lead (66-77).
The series of comebacks continued, with Monaco responding with a 16-4 run to take the lead entering the final minute (82-81). After a series of chaotic attacks, Luka Vildoza took matters into his own hands and sealed the game with a three-pointer four seconds before the end.
Okobo had the chance to secure victory for his team at the buzzer, but he was not precise.
Virtus now has a record of 12-13, and in the next round, they will host ASVEL. On the other hand, Monaco has 15 wins and ten losses, and in four days, they will play against Zalgiris in Kaunas.
