Sergio Scariolo expressed complaints about some decisions made by the referees in Round 26 of the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season, after Real Madrid fell to Panathinaikos Aktor in Telekom Center Athens.

A narrow loss on Tuesday, following a deciding bucket by Jerian Grant, reduced the season tally to 16-10, and also surrendered a tiebreaker advantage to the Greens.

“Let me give you a politically correct answer because if I tell you what I really feel in this moment, I think it probably wouldn’t be smart on my side. I prefer to waste my money for other purposes,” mentioned the 64-year-old in a flash interview during his exit from the court.

“We didn’t know that we were going to face a really, really bad performance by three very good referees, which I respect a lot. I think they’re really good,” he continued in the postgame press conference, referring to the officiating crew of Ilija Belosevic, Milivoje Jovcic, and Jakub Zamojski. “Players make bad games, coaches make bad games, and referees had a very bad game tonight.”

“For whatever reason, our record against these three guys is 1-7,” added Scariolo. “The number of offensive fouls called, I think, is a world record. And it was a clear foul on Alberto Abalde after the turnover, not in the turnover.”

Resuming action for the bottom end of a two-game week in Europe’s premier club competition, the team based in the Spanish capital is staying on the road to face Dubai in Coca-Cola Arena on Thursday.
