The ‘Final Dance’ jersey, worn by Deni Avdija in his last game with the Israeli powerhouse, is now available on the official Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv store.
This auction comes just days before Avdija makes history as the first Israeli to participate in the annual NBA All-Star Game.
The club shared additional details regarding the bidding process this Wednesday.
Per the press release: “History is being made at Maccabi Tel Aviv. For the first time, the club is hosting an official auction for a true “Holy Grail”: The jersey worn by Deni Avdija in his final appearance in the Yellow-and-Blue – the 2020 Championship game where he was crowned League MVP.
The Auction Details The auction will go live on the official Maccabi Tel Aviv store this Thursday, February 12th, at 5:00 PM (Israel Time). The starting bid is set at 5,000 NIS. The auction will close on Sunday at 6:00 PM (Israel Time), just hours before the NBA All Star tips off.
In the spirit of Deni’s journey, 10% of all proceeds will be donated to Variety Israel that supports children with special needs from low socio-economic backgrounds. The charity organization was chosen by the Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Academy – where Deni’s legendary career began.
The Story of the Jersey
July 28, 2020. The season was delayed and reshaped by the global pandemic, but Deni Avdija used that time to transform. He returned to the court having added 6kg of muscle, looking faster, stronger, and more lethal than ever.
In the final against Maccabi Rishon LeZion, Coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos gave the young phenom the start. Avdija played 26 minutes, recording 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 assists, eventually hoisting the championship trophy alongside Jake Cohen.
That was his final game before being drafted into the NBA on November 18th of that year. The club made a visionary decision: to preserve that jersey, hand-signed by Deni himself, and wait for the perfect moment. Five years later, as Deni prepares for his NBA All-Star debut, that moment has arrived.
