The pursuit of Nigel Hayes-Davis has reached a definitive conclusion, marking one of the most significant mid-season acquisitions in modern EuroLeague history. After intense speculation and competing offers from powerhouses like Fenerbahce Beko and Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv, Panathinaikos Aktor owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos confirmed via Instagram that the American forward has signed a deal through 2028.
The road to this signing was complex. Following his release from the Milwaukee Bucks, which occurred shortly after a deadline-day trade from the Phoenix Suns, Hayes-Davis became the most coveted free agent in Europe. Giannakopoulos previously hinted on social media that a deal might be unattainable, but ultimately secured the forward’s services ahead of the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season crunch time.
Panathinaikos’ financial might tipped the scales. The Greens placed the most lucrative offer on the table, securing a long-term commitment from the reigning Final Four MVP and champion with Fener.
During his brief NBA return this season, the former Wisconsin standout averaged 1.3 points and 1.2 rebounds across 27 appearances for the Suns. He increased his career total of games played in the North American league to 36. Back in Europe’s premier club competition, he is set to add to his current total of 213 appearances.
Hayes-Davis joins Ergin Ataman’s side as they sit tied for sixth in the EuroLeague standings with a 16-11 record, fighting for at least one of six direct playoff seeds. Domestically, his new team holds a 15-2 record in the Stoiximan GBL, trailing only rivals Olympiacos.
