Maccabi Tel Aviv continues to live on dramatic finishes.
After edging Partizan in the closing minutes and surviving Crvena Zvezda in the final seconds, Oded Kattash’s team prevailed over Bayern Munich after overtime in Tel Aviv, 111-106.
It was a spectacular showdown at Menora Mivtachim Arena, with the hosts raining three-pointers, though even that wasn’t enough to put away an inspired Andy Obst and Svetislav Pešić’s squad in regulation.
Neno Dimitrijević hit a clutch three-pointer while drawing a foul with less than 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter, then converted the free throw to give Bayern the lead. Oshae Brissett had a chance to win it from the line, but made just one of two free throws, sending the game into overtime, where Maccabi took control and eventually sealed the victory.
The hosts shot a remarkable 20-for-33 from beyond the arc, with Tamir Blatt going a perfect 6-for-6 and Will Rayman 5-for-5 from deep. Blatt finished with 20 points and nine assists, while Roman Sorkin led all scorers with 21 points. Rayman added 16, Jaylen Hoard posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, Iffe Lundberg chipped in 13, and Jimmy Clark scored 10.
On the other side, it was largely a one-man show from Obst, who poured in 33 points, while Dimitrijević contributed 15 points and 10 assists, and David McCormack added 17 points and eight rebounds.
