Anadolu Efes has officially announced the departure of sports director Ismail Senol, marking the end of a significant chapter for the EuroLeague powerhouse.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that both parties reached a mutual agreement to terminate their professional relationship. In a formal statement, the organization noted that the decision followed collaborative discussions regarding the future direction of the team’s basketball operations.

Efes expressed sincere gratitude for Senol’s professionalism and the strategic vision he brought to the organization. “As the Anadolu Efes Sports Club family, we thank Mr. Ismail Senol for his valuable contributions and wish him the very best in his future career,” the official release stated. His exit marks a period of transition as the Istanbul-based team navigates the remainder of a challenging season.

Senol originally joined Efes in November 2024, stepping into the high-pressure role of sports director. A highly respected figure in Turkish sports media, he made a high-profile transition from journalism into front-office management. His appointment was initially viewed as a strategic move to bridge the gap between analytical scouting and elite-level executive administration.

During his tenure, Senol focused on restructuring the basketball operations department and modernizing recruitment strategies. Before this executive appointment, he had already built a formidable reputation as a scouting consultant for various NBA and EuroLeague franchises. This technical expertise was central to his mission of maintaining the club’s status as a perennial contender on the international stage.

The departure comes amidst a difficult competitive stretch for the team coached by Pablo Laso. Efes sits 17th in the EuroLeague with a 9-20 record, trailing the Play-In Showdown zone by seven games with only nine rounds remaining. Domestically, the team holds a 12-8 tally in the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi, ranking fifth and trailing leaders Fenerbahce Beko by six games.
