Pedro Martínez clarifies tweets about officiating

Social media took center stage following Valencia Basket’s elimination from the Copa del Rey at the hands of Real Madrid.
This time, the focus shifted to head coach Pedro Martínez, who turned to his X account days later to subtly criticize the officiating performance.

The Spanish coach publicly addressed the tweets posted after the game, clarifying that they were not written by him.

It was my community manager, who posted some photos. There was no text — just the images,” Martínez explained.

Beyond the social media episode, however, the coach made it clear that the club does have its own assessment of the refereeing, although he believes the proper channel to address it is not public debate.

This is something the club needs to discuss with the officiating authorities to understand their view of the performance. We have our opinion about what happened with the refereeing, and we also have an opinion about our own performance,” he said.

Martínez emphasized that Valencia’s cup elimination was also the result of his team’s play, as they let a lead slip away when the game seemed under control. Still, he hopes all parties involved will look to improve.

In the same way that we are completely critical of how we played and what we need to improve — that’s why we train every day — we expect the other parts of basketball to do the same,” Martinez concluded.
