Bayern Munich achieved a significant victory in the 30th round of the EuroLeague by defeating Crvena Zvezda away (85-80).
For the second time this season, and the first under the leadership of Svetislav Pesic, the team from Munich defeated Zvezda, keeping itself in the race for the play-in, while on the other hand, it reduced the rival’s chances.
After the match against his former club, Svetislav Pesic spoke to the media.
“For us, this is a very important victory. We have a chance to advance, but it doesn’t depend entirely on us. We have to win the next two games, if we do that against Efes and one more, we can dream. I am happy and proud of the players and the team, we found good solutions and won in the end.”
He also praised the performance of Neno Dimitrijevic, who scored 11 points in Belgrade.
“He is an extremely talented guy. He spent the most important years of his career in Badalona, and he always showed talent. He needs good training, and with me, he trains. You saw what kind of defense he played against the best attacker in Europe. He is an exceptional player, we are happy, and he is happy too.”
Bayern’s coach was greeted with applause in Belgrade, which he also spoke about after the game.
“Journalists always say that the coach didn’t motivate the players, but someone has to motivate the coach too. That was this reception. I can never forget when we were world champions how the people welcomed us. If I hadn’t experienced that, maybe I would have stopped doing this. It’s something that always motivates you. People my age aren’t expected to do much, but there you go. I can always surprise.”
Bayern now has a record of 13-17, and in the next round, they will host Anadolu Efes.
