Zalgiris recorded a significant victory in the 33rd round of the EuroLeague, defeating Bayern Munich in Kaunas with a score of 78-71.
Azuolas Tubelis was the top scorer for the Lithuanian giant with 21 points, Moses Wright added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Sylvain Francisco contributed 14 points and seven assists.
On the other side, Bayern was led by Oscar da Silva with 12 points, Xavier Rathan-Mayes with 11, and Justus Hollatz with ten, in a Munich team that did not have Neno Dimitrijevic or coach Svetislav Pesic, who was ill for this match.
The hosts entered the match better, gaining a noticeable lead already in the first quarter (16-8), but Bayern came back into the game and completed a comeback in the second quarter, which gave them a halftime lead (34-38). The visitors’ lead grew to a maximum of eight points (34-42), but the Lithuanians made a 13-0 run, turning the game around (52-45), and maintained their advantage until the end.
Zalgiris continued their rise in the EuroLeague standings, now holding a 19-14 record and sitting in sixth place. In the next round, they will face Fenerbahce in three days. On the other hand, Bayern has no chance of advancing further, currently holding a 13-20 record, and will face ASVEL in the next round.
