Ahead of the game in Phoenix, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić needed just 68 more assists over the final 10 regular-season games to secure another season averaging a triple-double.
A few hours later, the Serbian star responded with 17 assists in a 125–123 win over Suns — adding the game-winning shot.
Jokić finished with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 17 assists, and now needs 51 more assists over the remaining nine games to make more NBA history.
He is currently averaging 28 points (eighth in the league), 12.6 rebounds (first), and 10.6 assists (first), while shooting an impressive 57.3% from the field.
Phoenix was, in theory, the only team that could threaten Denver’s playoff spot, but that is no longer a real concern. The Nuggets now turn their focus to the race for the third or fourth seed in the Western Conference and home-court advantage.
