Zalgiris managed to defeat Fenerbahce (81-78) in Game 3 of the EuroLeague Quarterfinal series, extending it for at least two more days.
Although they were trailing by 19 points in the middle of the second quarter, the hosts managed to get back into the game and ultimately celebrate the victory.
After the match Tomas Masiulis, the coach of Zalgiris, addressed the media.
“When the gap was widening, we were only focusing on ourselves. Yet, we never gave up and continued to fight. At some point, we started playing not for ourselves but for the team. That was the most important thing. We believed in the victory, and everyone fought for the team.”
Jasikevicius: “We never played defense”
Sarunas Jasikevicius also gave his statements after a game in Kaunas.
“Good evening, everyone. First of all, I congratulate Tomas and Zalgiris on their victory. I think they were the more consistent side today. We started the game very well, especially on offense, but we couldn’t sustain it. We weren’t good defensively throughout the match.”
When asked, “What do you think was the reason for the 19-point lead being closed?” Saras Jasikevicius replied:
“We never played defense.”
