Xevi Pujol is very close to signing for Barça

The changes at Barça continue, and all signs point to changes in the front office as well as on the bench. Just hours after Xavi Pascual’s departure was made official—he will use his buyout clause to move to Dubai—Barça is preparing for a move that could be just as significant.

According to Eurohoops sources, Xevi Pujol is the frontrunner to take over as sporting director at Barça, replacing Juan Carlos Navarro. The best player in the club’s history has not been successful as general manager, and after several years without a title, his time as the top executive of Barça basketball is numbered. The position of Mario Bruno Fernández, the current sporting director, is also in jeopardy, but a reassignment is currently being considered.

Xevi Pujol is currently the technical secretary of Kosner Baskonia, but the turbulent situation at the Vitoria-based club could be a key factor in his departure. After a brilliant stint at BAXI Manresa, the 36-year-old prodigy made the leap to the big leagues with Kosner Baskonia, but has become embroiled in the internal strife plaguing the team, which is chaired by Josean Querejeta. The influence of Alfredo Salazar, the long-time head of Baskonia’s rosters, remains strong, and the potential departure of Galbiati is the best possible proof of this.
