Tony Parker’s appointment as ASVEL head coach has been officially confirmed, and the French club appears ready to back its new era with record investment.
According to L’Équipe, ASVEL has presented a projected €58 million operating budget and a €20 million player payroll for next season, figures that would make it the biggest budget in the history of French basketball as the club looks to establish itself among Europe’s elite ahead of the proposed NBA Europe project.
The report from BeBasket also states that Parker has a “moral agreement” with ASVEL for the next ten years, despite signing a coaching contract structured as a 2+3 deal, with the clear objective of delivering the club’s first European title.
That ambition is already reflected in the roster. Parker reportedly confirmed the arrivals of Sylvain Francisco, Nick Weiler-Babb, Daniel Theis, Armoni Brooks and Both Gach, while veteran coach Vincent Collet will join his staff as offensive coordinator.
“I wanted a franchise player, and Sylvain Francisco was at the top of my list. He truly has that French DNA. It’s incredible that we managed to convince him,” Parker told L’Équipe.
On adding Collet to his coaching staff, Parker said:
“It’s a privilege and a chance to have Vincent Collet as an assistant. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better way to start, and it gives credibility to my project.”
