The journey of Australian point guard Patty Mills has taken an exciting turn with his decision to join the French EuroLeague club LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.
This follows a spectacular stint in the Basketball Champions League and Spain’s Liga Endesa with La Laguna Tenerife. With the Canary Islands outfit, Mills resurfaced his FIBA Patty nickname alongside his elite scoring power by delivering a 36-point performance against powerhouse FC Barcelona. His lethal shooting across Europe quickly caught the attention of several clubs, ultimately sparking a competitive pursuit that is leading him to France.
His next career step was initially reported by TeleSport on Friday.

This signing is far more than a standard player transaction. It marks a profound reunion between the Canberra native and former San Antonio Spurs icon Tony Parker. The 44-year-old former player, who served as both the president and the majority owner of ASVEL, is taking over as the new head coach. The two shared a successful bond in San Antonio, primarily operating in a master-and-apprentice dynamic where Mills served as the chief backup point guard. That partnership reached its peak when they helped pilot the Spurs to the NBA championship in 2014.
While the retired player eventually departed in 2018 for a final season with the Charlotte Hornets, Mills remained in San Antonio until 2021. Now, as the veteran prepares to turn 38 in August, this French venture signals a major chapter where he may conclude his career at the end of the 2026–27 season.
