Nikola Mirotic has emerged as an offseason transfer target of FC Barcelona, as reported by Jose Ignacio Huguet for Mundo Deportivo on Monday morning.
The 35-year-old power forward is finalizing his departure from AS Monaco following the club’s financial crisis. He has not ruled out wearing the Barca jersey again, which seems to remain his first choice if he receives a call from the team. This potential return comes three years after his controversial departure.
With the Catalonia giant looking to strengthen their squad, they have yet to confirm any top-level superstars this summer. Mirotic would fill that role, having built an illustrious career defined by elite scoring.
He shocked the basketball world in 2019 by leaving the NBA for Barcelona. During that highly celebrated four-year stay, he became the locker room leader, capturing a couple of Liga Endesa championships and two Copa del Rey titles. Recognized as one of the finest European offensive players in history, the experienced big also won the prestigious EuroLeague Most Valuable Player award in 2022.
A veteran of 307 appearances in Europe’s premier club competition, Mirotic has scored 4,410 points, surpassing the 4,000-point mark during his stint with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, shortly before taking his talents to LA Roca Team for the 2025–26 journey. Playing in 31 games with Monaco, he tallied 11.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.3 blocks per contest.
Before his European dominance, he spent five seasons in the NBA after being drafted with the 23rd overall pick in 2011. The Montenegrin native made his way to 359 games with the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, and Milwaukee Bucks.
Mirotic also excelled internationally, earning a gold medal at EuroBasket 2015 and capturing bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with Spain.
