Besiktas resumed preparations for the next EuroLeague season with the acquisition of Eugene Omoruyi. The deal was announced on Wednesday.

The Turkish powerhouse, guided by head coach Dusan Alimpijevic, secured the versatile 1.98-meter combo forward to bolster their roster for the upcoming 2026–27 campaign. Born in Nigeria and raised in Canada, 29-year-old Omoruyi brings significant high-level experience to Istanbul after debuting in Europe’s premier club competition last year.

During his recent stint with Kosner Baskonia, the energetic striker made 23 appearances in the EuroLeague, including eight starts. He proved his efficiency on the floor by averaging 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game.

Before showcasing his skills with the Vitoria-Gasteiz outfit, the former Rutgers and Oregon collegiate standout carved out a notable path in North America. After his NCAA career concluded in 2021, he entered the NBA ranks with the Dallas Mavericks and their G League affiliate, the Texas Legends. Over the subsequent years, he logged 87 games played, suiting up for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, and Washington Wizards.

Adding to a blend of new talent and retained experience, Omoruyi’s arrival marks another ambitious move in a highly active summer window for Alimpijevic’s squad. The Black Eagles have aggressively retooled, previously securing high-profile newcomers DaQuan Jeffries, Jaylen Nowell, Mady Sissoko, Scottie Wilbekin, Metecan Birsen, and Furkan Korkmaz. Beyond these fresh faces, the club prioritized roster continuity by finalizing contract extensions with core pieces Anthony Brown, Devon Dotson, Berk Ugurlu, and Ante Zizic.
