NBA veteran and recently crowned G League Finals Most Valuable Player, Tosan Evbuomwan, is set to sign a two-year contract with FC Barcelona, as reported by insider Chema de Lucas on Friday. This update follows initial reporting from BeBasket, which first disclosed the Catalan powerhouse’s strong interest in securing the services of the talented 25-year-old forward.
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Evbuomwan initially excelled at football within the competitive Newcastle United Youth Academy before shifting his athletic focus to basketball at age 14. As a proud Newcastle native, he went on to represent Great Britain internationally in the FIBA U18 European Championships across both 2018 and 2019. He later moved to the United States to play college basketball for the Princeton Tigers, where he was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2022 and successfully spearheaded the team’s historic Sweet Sixteen run in 2023.
Over the last three seasons, the versatile forward logged 50 total NBA appearances, suiting up for the Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, and Memphis Grizzlies. Because his professional career in North America was primarily based on two-way contracts, he spent large chunks of time developing in the G League. He fully capitalized on that environment, recently being named Finals MVP while leading the Greensboro Swarm to a memorable championship title.
Evbuomwan is heading to Barca during a period of massive roster restructuring under newly hired head coach Aleksander Sekulic. The Catalonia giant has heavily replenished its depth chart this summer, already announcing the additions of Olek Balcerowski, Umoja Gibson, Tyrese Martin, Josh Nebo, Olivier Nkamhoua, Justin Robinson, Agustin Ubal, and Stanley Umude.
