Valencia youth product Lucas Mari returns home to join senior squad

After one NCAA season with Vermont, Lucas Mari returned to Valencia.

The deal was announced on Saturday.

Per the press release: “Valencia Basket and shooting guard Lucas Marí (Godella, 1.97 m, October 20, 2005, age 20) have reached an agreement for the Spanish player to return to the Taronja men’s team. Last season, the club and Marí agreed to his departure so that the player could continue his development in the U.S. Collegiate League (NCAA), while retaining his rights, and he will now return to join the team coached by Xavi Albert.

The Taronja youth product spent the 2025–26 season at the University of Vermont, where he had a great personal, academic, and athletic experience. He played a total of 30 games, averaging 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in an average of 20 minutes on the court.”

Highly regarded for his physical style of play, strong rebounding, and excellent pick-and-roll pacing, the versatile guard originally joined the youth academy back in 2016. He eventually made his debut with the senior team in 2022. Internationally, Mari has also represented Spain with distinction, capturing silver medals at both the FIBA U17 World Cup 2022 and the FIBA U18 European Championship 2023.

Returning to Valencia, he will support in both the continental EuroLeague and domestic Liga Endesa for the upcoming 2026–27 season. The roster currently features Alvaro Cardenas, Gonzalo Corbalan, Mo Gueye, Omari Moore, Dylan Osetkowski, Josep Puerto, Nate Reuvers, Neal Sako, Mario Saint-Supery, T.J. Shorts II, Yankuba Sima, and Kam Taylor.
