Olympiacos will not return to the Peace and Friendship Stadium before the end of 2026, the club’s sporting director Christos Bafes confirmed.
Renovation work at SEF is currently around 80% complete, but the reigning EuroLeague champions are prepared to wait to ensure the project is finished properly.
“We will be away from SEF throughout 2026 because the work is ongoing,” Bafes said. “We are at 80%. Even if it takes a little longer, what matters is that the job is done properly.”
Olympiacos is expected to use AEK’s Sunel Arena as a temporary home and could return to SEF at some point during the second half of the 2026-27 season.
The deal is not yet finalized between the two clubs, but it seems a formality at this point. Meanwhile, Olympiacos is expected to use the practice facilities of SEF, which are already renovated, while the main arena gets revamped.
According to Olympiacos, the club will pay 15M euros for the works done inside the arena, while the Greek state is expected to pay 25M euros for the energy upgrading of the 40-year-old building.
