It’s an unusual decision, taken by team owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos who has promised a bonus of 250.000 euros to the team, if they qualified to the EuroLeague Final Four.
However, after Fenerbahce’s 3-0 triumph and despite Giannakopoulos stating last night night that the better team qualified, Panathinaikos’ coaches and players will need a 12-hour bus ride in order to return from Istanbul to the Greek capital.
Τhe total distance between the two cities is a little more than 1.000 km and the obvious point of this gesture is to “punish” the team for getting swept from the playoffs.
