Three Weeks Remaining to Apply for 2017-18 Sports Business MBA

Organized by Vytautas Magnus University in partnership with Euroleague Basketball, the MBA focuses on modern approaches to sports business consisting of six modules over three academic semesters, including internship and group work opportunities, then ending with an MBA thesis.

Candidates must submit their completed online application by Monday, August 28, 2017.

Students enrolling for the course will be equipped with all of the necessary tools to become professionals in a broad range of sporting companies, organizations and endeavors, including clubs, leagues, international and national federations, sports marketing agencies, sponsors, technology providers and media outlets, to name a few.

As part of the blended learning program, the dates for the four in person sessions are as follows:

The first session will be held in Barcelona, Spain, where a transfer of knowledge from Euroleague Basketball senior management to students will take place at the company headquarters, from September 18 to 22, 2017.

The second session will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, with the Vytautas Magnus University staff hosting the students on their campus, as well as a full day at Zalgirio Arena going in-depth with arena staff as well as Zalgiris Kaunas employees. This will take place from January 15 to 19, 2018.

The third session will be held in Belgrade, Serbia during the 2018 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four. A full day specializing in Financial Fair Play will be followed by multiple industry leaders presenting to the students in parallel with behind-the-scenes access to the main event at the Kombank Arena. This will take place from May 17 to 20, 2018.

The fourth session will be back in Kaunas, Lithuania, where the students will defend their MBA thesis during a Viva, as well as celebrate their graduation ceremony in the basketball heartland of Lithuania from October 22 to 24, 2018.

The latest addition to the course staff is Professor Umberto Lago. He currently holds a number of roles including Associate Professor of Management at the University of Bologna, member of UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body, and CEO of Rimini Holding. The UEFA Club Financial Control Body is in charge of analyzing European professional football clubs’ finances and their compliance with the Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play.
