Itoudis: “We will send an official protest to EuroLeague for the level of officiating”

Dimitris Itoudis got ejected from the game of CSKA Moscow against Valencia and during the post-game press conference he expressed his discontent with the decision of the referees.

“It’s good that I wasn’t ejected from here. I thought one of the refs would eject me from the press conference as well. They are still in the locker room, thank God, and I’m here and I’m here now. And I’m allowed to talk,” Itoudis began saying.

“Valencia is a great organization and made a great effort. But we as a club and organization, as athletes and coaches, deserve an equal and better level of officiating. I was ejected from the game because I was applauding my team to play better defense”, Itoudis said. The Greek coach even stood up to show how he held himself when he received the aforementioned ejection.

“The referee told me to stop this and I told him why? Because I try to support my team to play better defense?”

Itoudis made it clear that he was displeased with the officiating: “Once we discuss with the club’s President and vice president we will analyze and send an official protest (to EuroLeague) for the level of the officiating. Unfortunately, I starting like this in a game that I loved so much and against a team, Valencia, that I respect so much.”

“If I was called out for a bad gesture, I would say sorry about it. I would go to the lockers and say sorry. Mistakes can happen. Everyone makes them. We are human beings. This time, it wasn’t justified. And it surely doesn’t have to do with Valencia. Valencia is super.” he added. “This is a great club and champions in Spain. But unfortunately, I had to start with the part about the referees because of what happened.”
