Olympiacos head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos confirmed that the club is in the market for a guard that will be able to “truly help” the team and provide a quality punch when necessary.

“We are making moves in order to reinforce the team. We want to find a player who will manage to give us something extra when needed. This doesn’t mean that we don’t count on our players. It’s an addition, not a replacement,” Sfairopoulos said during the pre-game presser ahead of the Reds’ EuroLeague game against Valencia, Thursday (22/2).

A new transfer won’t mean that Olympiacos will release a player, Sfairopoulos added. “The roster will remain as it is, it will just be reinforced with a backcourt player who will truly help.”

The Greek coach also hinted that Olympiacos might in fact search for an additional player, apart from a guard, which is the club’s priority.

Regarding the match vs. Valencia, Sfairopoulos said that his team’s opponents require special attention on the defensive end. “Of course we should be extra careful in our defense. They have a lot of players who can score. Erick Green, Bojan Dubljevic that didn’t play in the first-leg game, or Tibor Pleiss. Alberto Abalde has also been really productive in recent games.”

Olympiacos is second in the EuroLeague standings with 15 – 7 record while Valencia sits at the 12th spot with 8 – 14.
