Madrid beat Zalgiris in Doncic’s return

Even before the end of the game, Zalgiris Kaunas has sealed its playoffs ticket, thanks to Panathinaikos road win. Still, the contest in Madrid was a dogfight with the “Whites” getting the close 88-81 win.

The final result gives to the “Whites” a 17-11 record, they are tied with Panathinaikos, but have the tie-breaking advantage and the fourth spot in the standings for the moment. On the other hand, despite their defeat, Zalgiris qualified for the first time for the playoffs in the modern format of the EuroLeague.

After two weeks out of action, Luka Doncic had 11 points (3/10 FG) and seven assists off the bench. That’s why the rest of the team had to work with captain Felipe Reyes leading a balanced team effort with 16 points and French guard Fabien Causeur added 14 points.

It was a close game from wire to wire, the hosts led by one point (75-74) with five minutes left, but finished the game on a 9-2 run with the first three-pointer of the night by Rudy Fernandez giving an 84-76 advantage. one minute before the final buzzer.
