Khimki Moscow has attempted 50 more 3-pointers than 2-pointers

Khimki Moscow Region is the only EuroLeague team so far in the 2018-2019 season that has attempted more 3-pointers than 2-pointers.

In fact, Khimki players have taken 211 shots from beyond the arc while having 161 2-point attempts.  This is a major contrast, especially for the European basketball standards, since we are talking about no less than 50 3-pointers more than 2-pointers. 56.7% shots of the Russian team are 3-pointers.

To put things in perspective, defending champion Real Madrid, that is second in 3-point attempts, has taken 166 shots while registering 218 two-point shots so far.

Many of Khimki’s shots come as a result of the system and are solid, open looks to the basket. But as long as the ball doesn’t fall to the hoop, the Russian team continues to struggle, being currently 1-5 in EuroLeague.

“We created a lot of open looks and open threes but missed them,” Khimki head coach Giorgos Bartzokas said following Friday’s loss to Barcelona.

Alexey Shved, the reigning EuroLeague Top Scorer and the current leader this season with 25.8 points per game, has 32/78 3-pointers so far. That’s 13 attempts per game.
