Two more players available for each team in every EuroLeague game is necessary according to Andrey Vatutin. CSKA Moscow’s president discussed the proposal and the chances for approval during a lengthy interview to Russian outlet R-Sport.

“Fourteen players available for each game has been discussed. I hope the EuroLeague General Assembly approves it this summer. The decision is long overdue. After all, two more teams will be added next year and there will be more games” he pointed out.

On the upcoming EuroLeague playoffs series versus KIROLBET Baskonia, he mentioned: “We felt ready to travel to Greece, but Zalgiris Kaunas complicated things with the heroic finish to the Regular Season. Baskonia has an historic chance to take part in the Final Four at home. Our opponents will give it their all. The series will be more difficult than ever. The first two games in Moscow are very important.”

Vatutin also touched on the couple of wins UNICS Kazan achieved against CSKA in VTB United League’s current season. “Both of UNICS’ wins over us were deserved. You can see the good work Dimitris Priftis and the team’s management has done. A playoffs matchup between us will be interesting” he said.

On the head coaching position held by Dimitris Itoudis: “First we need to decide on the head coach. I find it hard to imagine a coach winning the EuroLeague and not securing a contract extension. Something unexpected must happen, like the coach himself refusing the offer. It’s clear that winning the EuroLeague guarantees an offer.”
