Alexey Shved: I wish Timma would stay with us next season

After struggling with Olympiacos Piraeus, Janis Timma got loaned to Khimki Moscow Region in March and ‘clicked’ with the new squad improving drastically. He helped the Russians reach VTB United League Finals which also gave them a spot in the 2019-20 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague campaign.

Alexey Shved has also come to appreciate everything Timma’s been doing for Khimki and would very much like him to stay a part of the team next season as well: “Janis has become a very important player for Khimki. He has a great shot, so I’m always looking for him. He is able to score 8/10 three-pointers. I wish he would stay with us next season”, he told Izvestia.

The 26-year-old Latvian forward is currently under a two-year contract which includes the 2019-20 season and didn’t want to give any hints about his future after the VTB semifinals.

Shved also noted that they will miss Timma – who hurt his right toe – in the Finals but will leave everything on the court regardless: “It is clear that without him it will be much harder in the final but we don’t intend to give up before the game. On the paper, CSKA is the favorite but everything will be decided on the court”, he said.

CSKA and Khimki will play a best-of-five series to decide the VTB champions and Game 1 is scheduled for today (5/6) at 18:30 CET.
