AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan penned Sergio Rodriguez to a three-year contract, the Italian club confirmed via press release on Tuesday. Eurohoops previously reported on the deal between Milan and the 33-year-old Spaniard point guard.

“I am extremely happy and motivated to undertake this new chapter of my career” he noted upon signing and added: “Milan means so much to me and my family, we are all very happy.”

Rodriguez spent his last couple of campaigns with CSKA Moscow. Last year he averaged 10.2 points, 4.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds per EuroLeague appearance on his way for his second championship title in Europe’s premier competition.

The 2014 EuroLeague MVP captured his second VTB United League championship as well. He posted 11.5 points, 4.7 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game.

Following Aaron White, Michael Roll, Shelvin Mack, Paul Biligha and Riccardo Moraschini, Rodriguez is the latest player added to Ettore Messina’s squad ahead of the 2019-20 edition of EuroLeague. A veteran of 234 EuroLeague matches.

“The opportunity to play for such a great club and in a new country were key factors” Rodriguez said and looking back on Messina’s tenure with Real Madrid explained: “I respect him so much and working with him again will be wonderful.”

Rodriguez first worked under the 59-year-old Italian coach between 2009 and 2011. Aside from Real and CSKA, he launched his professional career with Estudiantes back in 2003 and took part in 358 NBA matches with the Portland Trail Blazers, the Sacramento Kings, the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
