Luis Scola has been in talks with Real Madrid, according to Carlos Sanchez Blas.

Juan Carlos Sanchez, the director of Real Madrid’s basketball section, has had Scola on his radar for a while. He tried to sign him five years ago and was in contact with the player before the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Scola would be the fourth Argentian on the roster together with Facundo Campazzo, Gabriel Deck and Nicolas Laprovittola.

However, it’s not a straightforward situation as the 39-year-old’s priority before the World Cup was to continue playing in China where the economic conditions are good and basketball is not as demanding daily.

Scola has received offers from China and his native Argentina while in Spain, Baskonia has the option to match any offers coming his way.

He played for Baskonia for nine years (1998-2007) before moving to the NBA. The veteran told the club before this summer that it’s unlikely for him to endure a full season of 90-ish games.

Last but not least, Scola will without a doubt want to be fully ready for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo as he was for the World Cup this year for which he spent two months preparing. The player is currently in China with his family considering all his options and is expected to make a decision soon.
