EuroLeague declines Barcelona’s request for changing the date of game vs. Alba Berlin

EuroLeague declined a request by Barcelona for changing the date of the Round 3 game against Alba Berlin that is planned for Friday (18/10).

Barcelona asked for the match to be played Thursday (17/10) because of the problems that may appear due to a general strike that is called in Catalonia. EuroLeague didn’t accept the request because Alba played a German League game (vs. Fraport Skyliners) on Tuesday. Bayern Munich, the other German club participating in EuroLeague, is also playing on Thursday and that was another reason for EuroLeague not changing the date of Barca’s match vs. Alba.

The strike is scheduled following the decision of the Spanish Supreme Court to jail nine Catalan separatist leaders. Per a report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona believes that the strike may cause problems for the fans that won’t be able to use public transport and may find extra difficulties in making it to the arena due to altercations that could happen around the city. There’s also the possibility that the game will become a stage of protest by the fans.
